iNET ALERT - Swine Influenza Outbreak
National Disaster Interfaiths Network Advises of Possible Swine Flu Pandemic

Public health officials, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control CDC, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene NYC DOHMH  as well as the The World Health Organization, have confirmed that, over the last 72 hours, an outbreak of Swine Influenza A (H1N1) or “swine flu” appears to have originated in Mexico where over 103 have died. On Friday has begun to spread rapidly across the United States – it is now confirmed in California, Texas, New York City, Kansas and Ohio. There are now over 20 confirmed cases in the United States. The flu has also been documented in schoolchildren in New Zealand and Canada.

On Sunday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declared a public health emergency. The WHO has declared the swine flu outbreak a “public health event of international concern. ”According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this strain of Swine Flu has spread widely and cannot be contained.
